18 NHL players placed on waivers for Sept. 26

After a busy couple of days of waiver action, a smaller list of names have hit the wire.

On Saturday, 18 NHL players were placed on waivers, making them available to the other 31 teams in the NHL.

If they were to clear waivers on Sunday, they would be eligible to be assigned to their respective American Hockey League affiliates.

The Islanders led the charge with five players hitting the wire, most notably forward Pierre Engvall. The veteran has been a bubble player for the team over the past couple of years, despite having a sizeable cap hit. He has four more seasons on his seven-year contract, which he signed in July 2023. That deal carries an AAV of $3 million. However, he hasn’t done much over the past couple of seasons. After scoring just 15 points during the 2024-25 campaign, the Swedish winger didn’t see any time at all in the NHL last year, spending the 2025-26 season with the Islanders’ primary affiliate in Bridgeport.

Another name to watch is Boston Bruins forward Lukas Reichel. The German playmaker bounced around the league a little bit last year. He started off the season with the Chicago Blackhawks, though it was known he wanted out. He was dealt to the Vancouver Canucks in October, but he was later traded to the Bruins ahead of the deadline. In 29 total games in the NHL in 2025-26, Reichel notched just three goals and eight points. The Bruins seemed to like the 24-year-old enough to sign him to a one-year contract extension in May. That deal has a cap hit of $950,000.

In 198 games in the NH, Reichel has scored 23 goals and 39 assists for 62 points.

An insane 61 names were put on waivers on Friday, including Utah Mammoth forward Brandon Tanev. Yet, only Andreas Englund and William Trudeau were claimed, with Englund going from the Flames to the Detroit Red Wings, while former New York Ranger Trudeau was taken by the Predators.
