Stars’ Kyle Capobianco to miss at least a week with lower-body injury

The Dallas Stars have another injury to deal with, as head coach Glen Gulutzan announced that defenseman Kyle Capobianco will now be missing at least a week with lower-body injury.
Capobianco sustained the injury during the Stars’ 5-1 loss to the New Jersey Devils on Thursday. Early in the third period, he took a hit from Timo Meier, and was limping off the ice with a likely leg injury. He did not return to the game.
The team is still waiting on Capobianco’s results from the MRI before giving an official timeline for return. That said, Gulutzan said the recovery period for Capobianco won’t be in the six-to-eight week range, and that it will be a week for sure, but more time could be missed on top of that. Based on the timeline given, he’ll miss at least the next three games for the Stars.
Since Capobianco may miss at least a week with the injury, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Stars place the defenseman on injured reserve to make room on their roster. Gulutzan did say they’ll recall a defenseman from their AHL affiliate, the Texas Stars, but that move has yet to be made.
Capobianco has been in and out of the lineup as a healthy scratch to start the season, as he’s played just five of their 12 games. He has no points in those five games.
There was a bit of good news out of Gulutzan’s injury updates, as it sounds like Sam Steel is likely to return for Thursday’s game against the Montreal Canadiens. Steel has missed the last two games with an undisclosed injury, and has one goal and two assists for three points in 10 games on the season.
Gulutzan also provided an update on David Perron, clarifying that the winger is still not ready to play with the team. Perron signed a one-year, $850,000 contract two weeks ago, and is getting up to speed with the team after not being a part of training camp.
The Stars currently sit in third in the Central Division with a 7-4-1 record. They’ll look to bounce back from their lost to the Devils when they host the Canadiens on Thursday at 7 p.m. CT.
