The Los Angeles Kings will have to wait a little bit longer to get back one of their top offensive threats.

On Thursday, the Kings announced that winger Kevin Fiala underwent a procedure and will miss the start of the team’s upcoming training camp.

The type of procedure was not disclosed, but it is related to the surgery Fiala underwent in February to repair the leg injury he sustained while playing for Switzerland at the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics.

A more exact timeline for Fiala’s return will be established futher into his recovery.

Fiala, 30, had 18 goals and 22 assists for 40 points in 56 games last season prior to the Olympic break.

The Swiss national is entering the fifth season of a seven-year, $55.13 million deal with Los Angeles.

Initially selected 11th overall by the Nashville Predators in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, Fiala played his first two-plus NHL seasons with the Predators before getting dealt at the 2019 trade deadline to the Minnesota Wild in exchange for forward Mikael Granlund.

After finishing out the 2018-19 season with the Wild, Fiala played three more seasons in Minnesota, including his career-best campaign of 2021-22 in which he notched 33 goals and 52 assists for 85 points in all 82 regular season games.

Fiala immediately capitalized on that career year, signing the deal on which he is currently still playing after getting traded to the Kings in exchange for forward defenseman Brock Faber and a first-round pick in June of 2022.

In the 2022-23 season, his first in Los Angeles, he registered 23 goals and 49 assists for 72 points in 69 games while earning an appearance in the All-Star Game.

Fiala’s production has gradually decreased since then, but he remains one of the Kings’ primary scorers when healthy.
