More tough news for a former prospect.

On Sunday, the Montreal Canadiens announced that forward Kirby Dach will be out for four 4 to 6 weeks with a fractured foot. In response, the team has called up forward Joshua Roy from its American Hockey League affiliate, the Laval Rocket.

It isn’t known exactly when Dach suffered the ailment. He was in the lineup when the Canadiens lost to the Boston Bruins, 3-2, on Saturday night. The 24-year-old registered a shot on goal in 14:43 of ice time, above his season average.

Dach is the second Hab to suffer a significant injury this week. On Thursday against the Dallas Stars, teammate Alex Newhook fractured his ankle, which has knocked him out for the next four months. With Newhook out, Dach was bumped up to the second line against the Bruins, alongside Oliver Kapanen and Ivan Demidov. It would’ve given the young winger a chance to stand out on one of the top teams in the Atlantic Division. However, with another injury added to his resume, Dach has had another opportunity slip away due to his ongoing health woes.

The Fort Saskatchewan, Alb. native has had plenty of injury problems during his tenure in Montreal. Knee surgery, just days into the 2023-24 season, to repair ACL and MCL injuries knocked him out for all but two games that year. Last February, he had another knee surgery that kept him out for the final two months of the regular season, as well as the team’s first berth in the Stanley Cup Playoffs since 2021.

Dach has never played a full 82-game season in the NHL. The closest he came was in 2021-22 with the Chicago Blackhawks, where he appeared in 70 contests.

This season, Dach has scored five goals and recorded two assists for a total of seven points in 15 games. It comes after he delivered 22 points in 57 games during the 2024-25 campaign.

Roy has appeared in one game so far this season, that coming on Oct. 22 in a win over the Calgary Flames, but didn’t score a point. In 10 games with the Rocket, the 22-year-old has notched four goals and three assists for seven points.

The Canadiens (10-6-2) get set to face the Columbus Blue Jackets on Monday night.
