A veteran presence is set to return to the ice.

The Montreal Victoire announced that forward Jade Downie-Landry has been activated from long-term injured reserve and is expected to be in the lineup on Friday, when the Victoire goes up against Downie-Landry’s former team, the New York Sirens.

In response, the team has placed fellow skater Maya Labad back on its reserve list.

Downie-Landry has been out of action since before the season due to an upper-body injury. She reportedly was hurt during an off-ice training session prior to the 2025-26 campaign getting underway.

The Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Que. native came to Montreal this past offseason after signing a one-year contract in June. She had spent the first two years of the PWHL with the Sirens, providing a solid veteran role for the rebuilding team in the Tri-State area. After a solid inaugural season in which she posted 13 points in 24 games, JDL’s production and ice time declined under head coach Greg Fargo, as she scored only four goals and six points in 2024-25.

In 54 career games in the PWHL, the 30-year-old has scored 12 goals and seven assists for nine points.

Labad only played in four of the Victoire’s first seven games of the season. She scored in her PWHL debut on Dec. 17 against the Toronto Sceptres, her lone point so far. She was last in the lineup on Dec. 27 at Centre Bell, when the Victoire fell to the Sceptres, 2-1.

The Victoire (3-1-0-3) will hope JDL’s return can give the team a jump as its tries to keep up with the best of the PWHL. Along with losing in the Duel at the Top last weekend, Montreal has dropped back-to-back games, also scoring just once in a 2-1 defeat at the hands of the Seattle Torrent.

Montreal enters 2026 down in fifth place, eight points back of the first-place Boston Fleet.
