Shanahan, 22, was the Sirens’ fourth-round pick in the 2025 PWHL Draft, selected from Boston University. She posted an 18-9-2 record, a .924 save percentage (SV%) and 1.81 goals against average (GAA) with three shutouts in 30 games during the 2024-25 season.
“I’m incredibly honored and excited to join such an amazing organization,” said Shanahan in a team press release. “I can’t wait to get started with the team and play in front of our passionate fans. I’m really looking forward to building connections within the community and being part of something bigger than the game, because that’s what the New York and New Jersey community is all about.”
Shanahan, a native of Commerce Township, Mich., played four NCAA seasons with Boston University, where she posted a 32-28-6 record in 77 career games, including a .918 SV% and 2.22 GAA.
Sirens general manager Pascal Daoust says in a league with only eight teams, goaltending is a “crucial position.”
“Callie brings athletic ability, competitiveness, and strong potential for development, but also the personality and determination that makes everyone around her better,” he said. “She’s a great teammate who pushes herself and her fellow goalies to always be ready, helping that confidence spread throughout the entire team.”
Shanahan joins a New York crease that includes Kayla Osborne, who posted a 2-4-3 record with a .916 SV% and 2.22 GAA in 2024-25. Former Sirens goalie Corinne Schroeder signed with PWHL Seattle in the offseason, while Abbey Levy inked a deal with the Boston Fleet.
The Sirens finished the 2024-25 season with an 8-4-5-13 record with 37 points, last in the PWHL. They failed to qualify for the Walter Cup Playoffs for the second straight season.
