Sirens sign first-overall pick Kristyna Kaltounkova to three-year contract

The first person to have their name called in this past year’s draft has finally signed her first contract.
On Monday, the New York Sirens announced that the team has signed forward Kristýna Kaltounková to a three-year contract.
The Czech star was the first-overall pick in the 2025 PWHL Draft, marking the second year in a row the Sirens have had the No. 1 pick in the draft. In 2024, New York picked Sarah Fillier, who went on to be named the PWHL’s Rookie of the Year.
Kaltounková is expected to lead a surge in New York after the team has finished in last place in each of its first two seasons.
“I cannot wait to get to work with my new teammates, coaches, and support staff,” Kaltounková said in a release. “Most of all, I am so excited to play in front of our great fans. Alicia Keys said it best, New York is where dreams are made of — I can’t wait to live mine out as a member of the Sirens.”
Kaltounková enters the North American pro ranks after a successful tenure at Colgate University under current Sirens head coach Greg Fargo. In her five years as a Raider, she hit the 50-point mark four times, helping her team win the ECAC Championship in her first four seasons with the program. Her senior season was memorable, as she became the first Czech player to be a top-10 finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Award as the top player in women’s college hockey.
In 171 games at Colgate, Kaltounková scored 111 goals and 122 assists for 233 points. She sits second all-time in scoring as a Raider, trailing only Seattle forward Danielle Serdachny.
Kaltounková made her IIHF Women’s World Championship debut last spring with Czechia, scoring four goals and six points in seven games, and was named to the tournament All-Star Team. In her days playing in Czechia, Kaltounková was a part of the HC Slavia Praha teams that won the Czech Extraliga zen titles in 2016 and 2017.
Kaltounková is the first player from the Sirens’ 2025 draft class to ink her first PWHL contract. She now joins a young core in New York that includes Fillier, former Colgate netminder Kayle Osborne, along with experienced players in captain Micah Zandee-Hart and Kristin O’Neill.
