Two players have been placed on the NHL waiver wire for October 4th, as the Boston Bruins and San Jose Sharks are sending down center Michael Eyssimont and right winger Patrick Giles to the minor leagues, respectively.

Pittsburgh Penguins center David Gustafsson, who was placed on waivers on October 3rd, cleared and will report to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in the AHL.

Eyssimont initially made the Bruins out of training camp as the 13th forward, but had yet to play a game to start the season. It’s unclear the true purpose of the move, but it’s possible it could be a result of Matthew Poitras returning from his injury, and Boston needing the roster space to do so. Poitras was placed on injured reserve a week ago as a result of a lower-body injury. Should Eyssimont clear waivers, it will be the first time he’s been assigned to the AHL in four years.

Eyssimont is coming off of another solid NHL season, where he had eight goals and 10 assists for 18 points in 56 games, although he followed that up with no points in two playoff games. He’s in the final year of a two-year contract with a $1.45 million cap hit, and will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.

Giles finds himself on waivers after beginning the season on non-roster injured reserve with an upper-body injury. He sustained the injury during training camp, and since an injured player cannot be waived, he had to be placed on NR-IR until he was cleared to play. With Giles ready to go, he now has to clear waivers, and if so, will report to the San Jose Barracuda to begin his season.

Giles spent a majority of his 2025-26 season in the AHL with the Barracuda, where he had 10 goals and 14 assists for 24 points in 67 games, along with two playoff games where he was held without a point. He also got into three NHL games last season, collecting just one assist. He’s in the first year of a two-year contract with an $875,000 cap hit.
