The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed winger Nick Robertson to a two-year contract with a $3.25 million cap hit, according to Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman.

Robertson was a restricted free agent after the conclusion of his one-year, $1.825 million contract which he was signed to for the 2025-26 season. He had elected for arbitration, with his hearing set for July 28th, so he and the Penguins resolve their negotiations with two weeks to spare.

At this point in time, it’s not known if Robertson’s new contract has any clauses or bonuses with it. This contract gives Robertson the largest salary in his career, and locks him up at 3.13% of the 2026-27 salary cap until he’s 26 years old. His closest contract comparables are Arseny Gritsyuk ($3.25 million AAV x 3 years) and Simon Holmstrom ($3.625 million AAV x 2 years).

The Penguins acquired Robertson on the first day of 2026 free agency, acquiring him from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for a 2028 fourth-round pick. A second-round pick in the 2019 NHL Draft, Robertson reunites with Kyle Dubas, the general manager who drafted him, in Pittsburgh.

Robertson is coming off of a career year where he had 16 goals and 16 assists for 32 points in 78 games, all three marks being the most he’s had in a single season. Plenty of that production came earlier in the season when he got a run in the Leafs’ top six, showcasing the potential he still has if given a full-time opportunity in that role. Considering Dubas’ recent trend of acquiring reclamation projects, it’s easy to see how Robertson is a fit in Pittsburgh.

The Penguins have had a relatively low-key offseason, as they’ve made a handful of smaller moves, including trading for Robertson and Kaedan Korczak, and signing Andrei Kuzmenko, Trevor Van Riemsdyk and Declan Carlile. They still have $13,677,640 in salary cap space according to PuckPedia after signing Robertson, with three RFAs left to re-sign in Alexander Alexeyev, Ville Koivunen and Vasiliy Ponomarev.
