The Ottawa Senators will be without one of their veteran blueliners for the next little while.

According to Julian McKenzie, defenseman Nick Jensen is out day-to-day with a lower-body injury.

Jensen, who missed Ottawa’s practice on Friday, underwent hip surgery in May of 2025, but this injury is unrelated to his hip.

In 61 games for the Senators this season, the Rogers, Minnesota native has four goals and 13 assists for 17 points while averaging a tick over 17 minutes of ice time. Last season for Ottawa, he put up three goals and 18 assists for 21 points while averaging just over 20 minutes of ice time.

The Senators acquired Jensen, along with a third-round draft pick, from the Washington Capitals in July of 2024 in exchange for defenseman Jakob Chycrun.

Jensen is in the final season of a three-year, $12.15 million contract, and is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this upcoming offseason.

Initially selected in the fifth round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft by the Detroit Red Wings, Jensen spent three-plus seasons in Detroit’s farm system before making his NHL debut in the 2016-17 season, when he put up four goals and nine assists for 13 points in 49 games.

After another year-plus with the Red Wings, Detroit dealt Jensen, along with a fifth-round pick, in February of 2019 to the Capitals for defenseman Madison Bowey and a second-round pick.

Jensen went on to play five-plus seasons in Washington, including a career-best 2022-23 campaign in which he notched five goals and 24 assists for 29 points in 77 games, before getting traded to Ottawa.

With 73 points through 64 games, the Senators are currently in sixth place in the Atlantic Division and five points back of the second wild card spot in the Eastern Conference.

Ottawa will host the Anaheim Ducks for a matinee game on Saturday.
