Senators re-sign Nick Cousins to two-year contract extension

The Ottawa Senators and forward Nick Cousins have agreed to terms on a two-year, $3.175-million contract extension that will carry a cap hit of $1.5875 million per season, The Fourth Period’s David Pagnotta reported Friday.

The first to report a potential deal was Coming in Hot co-host Brent Wallace.

The deal will pay Cousins $1.5 million in year one, then $1.675 million in year two. According to PuckPedia, the Senators now have $7.5 million in cap space.

Cousins finished the 2025-26 season with nine goals and 14 assists for 23 points and 92 penalty minutes in 81 regular-season games. He also appeared in four Stanley Cup Playoff games, recording one assist.

He was due to be an unrestricted free agent on Wednesday after his one-year, $825,000 contract expired.

Through 12 NHL seasons, the 32-year-old Cousins has 86 goals and 132 assists for 218 points and 445 penalty minutes in 723 career regular-season games with the Senators, Florida PanthersNashville PredatorsVegas Golden KnightsMontreal CanadiensArizona Coyotes and Philadelphia Flyers.

Cousins, a native of Belleville, Ont., has also appeared in 72 career Stanley Cup Playoff games, scoring four goals and 12 assists for 16 points. He was part of the Panthers’ two Stanley Cup Final runs in 2023 and 2024, helping the team win a championship in 2024.

Cousins was drafted by the Flyers in the third round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. He spent four seasons in the OHL with the Soo Greyhounds, scoring 102 goals and 189 assists for 291 points in 264 career regular-season games.
