Penguins activate Ryan Graves from injured reserve

The Pittsburgh Penguins have announced that defenseman Ryan Graves has been activated from injured reserve.
The Penguins have activated defenseman Ryan Graves from Injured Reserve.
Graves had missed the last four games with an undisclosed injury after sustaining one during their 4-1 win over the Calgary Flames on January 21st, although at what point of the game he suffered the injury is not known. Graves was put on the injured reserve the following day, and having served beyond the minimum time a player is supposed to be on IR, he is eligible to be activated.
Graves was a full participant in Penguins morning skate, with no restrictions to contact, which indicates he is eligible to return to the lineup. However, he did not skate in one of the top three pairs during the skate, which indicates that he’ll still be a healthy scratch for Monday’s game against the Ottawa Senators.
Graves has spent time in the NHL with Pittsburgh, as well as in the AHL with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, which is his first AHL action since his debut season with the Colorado Avalanche in the 2018-19 season. He has just one goal in 19 games in the NHL, and two goals and seven assists for nine points in 13 games in the AHL.
Pens are on the ice for a full morning skate after a day off yesterday- host Ottawa in the final home game before the Olympic Break tonight. (@ NYI Tuesday & @ BUF Thurs) Caleb Jones is on the ice in a regular jersey
Defenseman Caleb Jones, who has missed 45 games with a lower-body injury, was also seen in a regular jersey, which indicates that he may be close to a return. He has one assist in seven games this season.
The Penguins had an open spot on their roster for Graves’ activation after they had reassigned Tanner Howe to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Sunday. However, if they want to activate Jones as well, another roster move will need to be made. Considering Graves has spent some time in the AHL already and doesn’t appear to be playing on Monday, he may be the likely candidate to be reassigned again.
The Penguins currently sit in second in the Metropolitan Division with a 28-14-11 record. They will look to extend their six-game winning streak when they host the Senators on Monday at 7 p.m. ET.
