A young scorer is moving across the continent.

On Saturday, PWHL San Jose announced that the team has signed forward Anne Cherkowski to a two-year contract that will run through the 2027-28 season.

Cherkowski is the third signing San Jose has made since the second phase of the expansion roster-building process began. On Friday night, the team broke through with the additions of goaltender Corinne Schroeder and defender Rory Guilday.

Cherkowski is coming off a decent rookie year with the New York Sirens. Originally drafted in the second round, ninth overall, of the 2025 PWHL draft, she entered the pro ranks with some expectations after a fruitful career at Clarkson University. However, on a Sirens team that was inconsistent at times, Cherkowski wasn’t able to really find her groove in her first season. In 28 games, the Coldstream, B.C. native scored just two goals and seven assists for nine points, good for eighth on the team in scoring, with a plus/minus of -11 while averaging 18:41 of ice time per game.

New York general manager left Cherkowski exposed after protecting forwards Kristyna Kaltounkova, Casey O’Brien and Sarah Fillier.

The move from the East Coast to the West Coast might prove beneficial for the 23-year-old. She wasn’t able to mesh well with her new team, and, like what we saw with Danielle Serdachny joining the Seattle Torrent last summer, she might just need a group to play with in order to find that scoring touch that made her one of the best in college hockey.

In her five years in the NCAA, including spending her freshman season at Minnesota, Cherkowski scored 60 goals and 87 assists for 147 points in 168 games.

San Jose now has three of the five roster spots filled for Phase 2 of the Expansion Player Distribution Process. The second phase ends on June 8 at 1 p.m. ET.
