Seattle signs Hannah Murphy to two-year contract

One of the top goaltenders from this year’s draft class has inked her first pro contract.
On Wednesday, PWHL Seattle announced that the team has signed goaltender Hannah Murphy to a two-year contract that will carry through the 2026-27 season.
Murphy was taken by the expansion team in the second round, 15th overall, of the 2025 PWHL Draft.
“I am extremely grateful to officially sign with PWHL Seattle and make my dream of being a professional hockey player a reality,” Murphy said in a release. “It means so much to have the chance to connect with Seattle’s passionate and supportive fanbase and play with a talented group of players to try to bring a championship to the city.”
Murphy enters the professional ranks after an impressive four years at Colgate University. Alongside current New York Sirens backstop Kayle Osborne, the Radiers won three straight ECAC Tournament Championships, advancing to the NCAA Tournament every year Murphy was on the team. Colgate advanced to the Women’s Frozen Four, for just the second time in program history, in 2024.
With Osborne getting drafted in the PWHL last year, Murphy took over the starting job in 2024-25, posting a 26-8-0 record with a 1.86 goals-against average, a .939 save percentage and three shutouts, earning All-ECAC Second-Team honors.
Surprisingly, that was the “worst” season of her college career. Across four seasons with Colgate, the Kingston, Ontario native posted a 73-16-1 record in 101 appearances, with a 1.59 GAA, a .937 SV% and 18 shutouts. She’s the program’s all-time leader in career shutouts, GAA, SV%, and second behind Julia Vandyk in wins.
Seattle general manager Meghan Turner likes how the 5-foot-10 netminder moves and what she can bring to the new team.
“Hannah strikes a difficult balance between size and athleticism,” Turner said. “Her agility, quick crease movement, and ability to seal the net make her well-suited for the speed and demands of the pro game. We’re excited to see her on the ice this season.”
Murphy is set to compete for the No. 1 job on a team that has former Goaltender of the Year finalist Corinne Schroeder and veteran Carly Jackson in the fold. Murphy, the second Seattle draft pick to sign with the team, certainly has the ability to see significant playing time in year one.
