Rangers place J.T. Miller on injured reserve

The Blueshirts’ on-ice leader is going to be out of action for a little bit.
On Tuesday, the New York Rangers placed captain J.T. Miller on injured reserve with an upper-body injury.
The Rangers have put J.T. Miller on injured reserve, per the NHL Media site.
While it has yet to be reported what exactly is ailing Miller, multiple reports state this injury isn’t connected to what had been hindering the veteran center earlier in the season.
Miller did play in the Rangers’ most recent game. He registered 19:23 of ice time on Monday night against the Columbus Blue Jackets, posting an assist in a 5-4 overtime loss.
Per the NHL’s IR rules, Miller won’t be eligible to return to the lineup until next week. The Rangers visit the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday, before hosting the Calgary Flames on Tuesday.
The 32-year-old had picked up apples in each of the team’s past two games, having registered points in six of the past eight games. While his team has been a mess from the onset of the season, Miller has continued to produce. In 51 games, he has scored 14 goals and 24 assists for 38 points, sitting third on the team in scoring behind Mika Zibanejad and Vincent Trocheck.
Miller’s numbers are still far from what he has been able to accomplish over the past couple of years. After scoring a career-high 103 points with the Vancouver Canucks during the 2023-24 campaign, he totaled 70 points in 72 games with the Canucks and Rangers.
In 922 NHL games, Miller has scored 274 goals and 473 assists for 747 points.
The Rangers (23-29-8) are last in the Eastern Conference, 17 points back of the last Wild Card spot. New York sits 11 points ahead of the Canucks for the worst record in the NHL.
