The Seattle Kraken will have to finish up the pre-Olympic break portion of their schedule without their rookie forward.

The team announced on Saturday that Berkly Catton has an upper-body injury and will miss Seattle’s three remaining games before the NHL’s hiatus for the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics.

Catton, 20, suffered the injury during the Kraken’s 5-2 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday. While bending over to reach for the puck at the offensive blue line, he collided head first with oncoming Maple Leafs defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson.

The rookie out of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan has five goals and six assists for 11 points in 40 games played this season.

Catton was selected eighth overall by Seattle in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft. Last year, he played his final junior season for the WHL’s Spokane Chiefs, putting up an impressive 38 goals and 71 assists for 109 points in 57 games. He also contributed 11 goals and 31 assists for 42 points in 20 playoff games during Spokane’s run to the WHL finals. In the 2023-24 season for the Chiefs, he tallied 54 goals 62 assists for 116 points in 68 games.

Catton played for Canada at the 2025 World Junior Championships, where he had an assist in five games as Canada failed to medal.

The Kraken have 59 points through 53 games this season, which has them placed third in the Pacific Division. However, the Anaheim Ducks, Los Angeles Kings, and San Jose Sharks, teams that are technically behind Seattle in the standings, are all tied or within a point of them. Any slip up could knock the Kraken out of the Western Conference playoff picture.

Seattle will embark on a three-game road trip before the Olympic break, starting with a game against the Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday.
