Kraken offer free hats to season ticket holders who tossed them before McCann hat trick overturned

The hat trick is a timeless tradition in hockey, as is fans tossing hats on to the ice to celebrate the hat trick. But sometimes goals are taken back, and if it’s the hat trick-scoring goal, the hats were thrown for naught.
That occurred on Tuesday during the Seattle Kraken’s 5-1 win over the Washington Capitals. Forward Jared McCann thought he had scored his third goal of the game on a breakaway early in the third period, causing fans to toss their hats on to the ice in celebration.
The Matty Beniers high-sticking penalty happened 47 seconds before the Jared McCann goal. The Kraken had long stretches of possession in between where the play should've been blown dead. How does that happen?
But after a video review, the goal was taken back due to a high-sticking penalty taken by forward Matty Beniers… 47 seconds before the goal. Despite the fact the Kraken had several instances of lengthy possession in between the penalty and the goal, the referees opted to take back the goal to call a double minor.
To add insult to injury, Alex Ovechkin scored the Capitals lone goal of the game on the proceeding power play.
The fans lost their hats for nothing. The goal was called back after a Matty Beniers high-sticking penalty earlier in the play. The hat cleanup was almost finished by the time the call was announced. I've never seen anything like this before.

However, the Kraken are doing right by their fans. According to Kate Shefte of the Seattle Times, the Kraken are offering free hats to the season ticket holders who were deceived by the hat trick and tossed their hats before the goal was overturned.
But hey, they’re making it right.
Jared McCann appeared to have his second hat trick as a member of the Kraken, but teammate Matty Beniers took a double minor for high sticking earlier on the play. Confirmed on review. Goal overturned, hats wasted. ooooooof
“We all thought Jared McCann had our first home game hat trick of the season last night – and many of you tossed your hats out to celebrate,” said the Kraken in an email sent to their season ticket holders. “Unfortunately, the call was overturned. But if you lost your lid, you have the chance to redeem a free hat, courtesy of American Express. Complete the form at the button below if you were hat tricked, and we will send you a new one.”
Shefte mentioned in a reply to the tweet that while the offer only applies to season ticket holders, she was going to look into how other fans could get in on the giveaway. There is currently no further update on that matter.
McCann got his first two goals of the false hat trick in the second period with the first two goals of the game. He opened the scoring with a one-timer from the point on the power play in the first 75 seconds of the second, and then followed it by sneaking towards the side of the net undetected and potting home a rebound to make it 2-0 midway through the frame.
McCann has dealt with plenty of injuries this season, missing 24 games due to lower-body injuries, but when he’s been healthy he’s having one of his best seasons. In 28 games, he has 14 goals and 12 assists for 26 points, the best scoring pace in his career.
