Leafs place Anthony Stolarz on injured reserve

The goaltending situation continues to be in chaos.
On Saturday, the Toronto Maple Leafs announced that the team has placed goaltender Anthony Stolarz on injured reserve.
The Maple Leafs have claimed D Troy Stecher off waivers from Edmonton.
G Anthony Stolarz has been placed on injured reserve retroactive to November 11, 2025.
The move is retroactive to Nov. 11, when Stolarz left the team’s game against the Boston Bruins prematurely due to an upper-body injury. Dennis Hildeby replaced him after the first period, though it hasn’t been reported how Stolarz was hurt.
Per the NHL’s IR rules, Stolarz is ineligible to play until next Thursday, when the Leafs play host to the Columbus Blue Jackets.
The only relief, in the Leafs’ case, is that the team activated goaltender Joseph Woll to the main roster. Woll had played a couple of games in a conditioning stint with the team’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Toronto Marlies.
Stolarz had been playing the bulk of the games in the first month of the season. While Hildeby has served in the backup role, he has played in just four games thus far. In 13 starts this season, Stolarz has a record of 6-5-1, with a 3.51 goals-against average and a .884 save percentage.
While Woll is regarded by many to still be the starter when healthy, Stolarz has played big minutes in his first season and change in Toronto. Though he played just 34 games in his first year with the organization, the Edison, N.J. native was tabbed as the No. 1 goaltender for the Leafs in the playoffs. He helped the team eliminate the Ottawa Senators, but an injury in the first game against the Florida Panthers in Round 2 ended his postseason early.
In 155 career games in the NHL, Stolarz has a record of 70-44-13, with a 2.63 GAA, a .915 SV% and 12 shutouts.
The Maple Leafs (8-8-2) pay a visit to the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday night.
