Leafs update injury status of Tanev, Tavares, Domi, Joshua

The Toronto Maple Leafs may be riding a four-game winning streak, but they’re still operating at far less than full strength.
Toronto is missing a handful of regulars due to injury, but it appears that at least a few of them are getting nearer to returning. On Monday, Leafs general manager John Chayka provided updates on the statuses of forwards John Tavares, Dakota Joshua, Max Domi, and defenseman Chris Tanev.
Of those players, Joshua, 30, is closest to suiting back up for the blue and white. The Dearborn, Michigan native has yet to play for the Leafs this year after suffering a core injury during the preseason. Chayka stated that he has completed his conditioning stint with the AHL’s Toronto Marlies, where he went scoreless over four games, and will be recalled to the NHL soon.
Tanev, 36, has been out with an upper-body injury he suffered during Toronto’s 6-3 win over the Colorado Avalanche on October 10. Chayka revealed that Tanev has been “progressing nicely” and is likely to rejoin Leafs practice shortly. In six games for Toronto this season, the veteran blueliner has no goals and an assist while averaging just under 17 minutes of ice time.
Tavares, 36, has missed the Leafs’ last five games with a lower-body injury he suffered during a 5-4 overtime loss to the Buffalo Sabres on October 15. The former captain has two goals and five assists for seven points in seven games this season. Chayka mentioned that Tavares has resumed skating, which is a positive step in his recovery.
Domi, 31, remains out indefinitely after he failed a physical prior to the season. The team expected him to miss a significant amount of time due to complications arising from an offseason surgery. Chayka stated that Domi is now skating on his own.
Toronto will continue its four-game road trip against the Calgary Flames on Monday.
