Another depth blueliner has put pen to paper in the Six.

On Wednesday, the Toronto Sceptres announced that the team has signed defender Anna Kjellbin to a one-year contract for the 2025-26 season.

Kjellbin came to Toronto last year at the trade deadline after being acquired from the Montreal Victoire in exchange for Kaitlin Willoughby. She appeared in seven games for the Sceptres prior to the end of the regular season, registering two assists while averaging a little over 10 minutes of ice time per game.

The Göteberg, Sweden native played in all four games of the team’s semifinal series against the Minnesota Frost, scoring her first goal in the PWHL in Game 3 of the series. Unfortunately for Kjellbin and Toronto, the team lost to the eventual Walter Cup champions in four games.

Yet, a positive experience in her brief time with the team was enough to keep the 31-year-old around for another year.

“I’m excited to be returning to Toronto for another season,” Kjellbin said in a release. “After joining the team late in the year, I felt so welcomed and I can’t wait to get started for another season.”

Kjellbin was originally taken in the sixth round, 35th overall, by the Victoire in the 2024 PWHL Draft. In 18 games with Montreal, she notched an assist with a plus/minus rating of -5. In total, she posted three assists in 25 regular-season games, posting a -6 rating.

Along with her pro career, which includes eight seasons in the SDHL, Kjellbin has some significant international experience. She has worn the ‘C’ for Sweden at the IIHF Women’s World Championship, and was a member of Team Sweden at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.

Kjellbin is the fifth player to re-sign with Sceptres, including defender Kali Flanagan and forward Natalie Spooner. The team now has seven defenders signed to standard contracts for the 2025-26 season, filling up 18 of a possible 23 roster spots.
