Two NHL players placed on waivers for Oct. 14

A couple of notable names are hitting the wire in the middle of the week.
On Wednesday, the Vancouver Canucks placed forward Aatu Raty on waivers, and the San Jose Sharks center Alex Barre-Boulet also being made available to the other 31 teams in the NHL.
If both players clear waivers on Thursday, they’ll be eligible to be assigned to their respective American Hockey League affiliates.
Raty started the 2026-27 season with the Canucks, appearing in four of the team’s first eight games of the campaign. He was last in the lineup this past Sunday, which saw Vancouver get hammered by the New York Rangers, 6-2. The 23-year-old does have one goal on his record thus far, that coming in a 4-1 win over the rival Calgary Flames on Oct. 3. Raty has a plus/minus of -2 while averaging 10:10 of ice time per game.
Raty is coming off his most productive season in the NHL. Along with playing in a career-high 66 games, the Oulu, Finland native posted four goals and 14 points. In 118 career contests in the league, Raty has notched 14 goals and 15 assists for 29 points. He’s in the second season of his two-year contract extension that he signed in June 2025. The deal has a cap hit of $850,000.
Barre-Boulet began the new season on the Sharks’ injured/non-roster list. He joined the Sharks after spending the 2025-26 campaign in the Colorado Avalanche system, but played just two games with the Avs, registering one assist. He spent most of the year with the Colorado Eagles, Colorado’s top farm team, posting 26 goals and 70 points in 70 games.
The 29-year-old signed a two-year, two-way contract with San Jose in July, which has an AAV of $875,000, an AHL cap hit of $550,000 and a guaranteed salary of $600,000. The Montmagny, Que. native has scored 12 goals and seven assists for 19 points in 72 regular-season games in the NHL.
Dallas Stars forward Harrison Scott was the only player put on waivers on Tuesday. He cleared and is expected to join the Stars’ primary affiliate, the Texas Stars.
