United States may regret not bringing more offense to Olympics

The United States announced their Olympic men’s ice hockey roster on Friday, with a few notable omissions that left some fans scratching their heads.
Dallas Stars’ forward Jason Robertson has 24 goals this season, which ranks second among U.S. skaters and is tied for fourth among NHLers. Robertson’s 48 points are also the most among any American player in the league.
Meanwhile, Montreal Canadiens’ forward Cole Caufield leads the team in goals with 20 and has 40 points on the season.
On Friday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Tyler Yaremhcuk and former NHL video coach Steve Peters discuss the players who didn’t make the U.S. roster and if the lack of offense will end up hurting them in the end.
Tyler Yaremchuk: Caufield, Robertson, Adam Fox, I’d even include Matthew Knies in that group. Are you surprised that Caufield Knies and Robertson are off, while J.T. Miller and Vincent Trocheck are on the team? Robertson is one of three players in the league who had 50 goals in the calendar year of 2025. I just have a hard time wrapping my head around not including that guy in this group.
Steve Peters: This is hard, and one of the things that happens when you build a team like this – you’ll see some type of bias. Look at Mike Sullivan and the New York Rangers bias: I know Fox is left off, but you look at the addition of Trocheck, who is going to be more valuable?
I know they’re trying to build the best team, but you’re looking at the leading point getter for Americans in the NHL, and it’s Jason Robertson. To leave him on this roster … you don’t want to regret leaving someone off. When this tournament is all set and done, you don’t want to think, “We could have used a goal or a power-play goal, and we didn’t have that.” That’s the concern when you look at snubs.
