Capitals sign Josh Dunne to one-year deal

The Washington Capitals announced Wednesday they have signed forward Josh Dunne to a one-year deal worth $850,000.

Dunne spent the majority of the 2025-26 season with the Buffalo Sabres, where he scored one goal and added three assists for four points and 38 penalty minutes in 34 games. He also appeared in two playoff games last spring.

Dunne also appeared in parts of six seasons in the AHL, where he scored 47 goals and 48 assists for 95 points and 198 penalty minutes in 204 regular-season games. In 22 Calder Cup Playoff games, he has 10 goals and eight assists for 18 points.

Before turning pro, Dunne spent three seasons playing college hockey with Clarkson University. In 78 career NCAA games, he scored 29 goals and 26 assists for 55 points.

He also spent parts of four seasons with the USHL’s Green Bay Gamblers, where he recorded 34 goals and 40 assists for 74 points in 140 career regular-season games.

It was a busy day for the Capitals, who signed Boone Jenner to a four-year, $23-million deal with a cap hit of $5.75 million, as well as defenseman Vincent Desharnais to a four-year, $16.8-million deal with an average annual value of $4.2 million.

Jenner, 33, scored 13 goals and added 25 assists for 38 points in 67 games last season. Meanwhile, the 30-year-old Desharnais had a goal and six assists for seven points in 53 games in 2025-26.

Washington also signed forward Jonny Brodzinski to a one-year deal worth $850,000 and defender Justin Holl to a one-year contract that will pay him $900,000.
