Almqvist likely won't get into the lineup with six healthy defensemen ahead of him. However, the way Red Wings are dropping lately, he could be on the blueline by Saturday.
Almqvist scored his first career NHL goal on Thursday vs. Dallas. On top of the goal he was a minus-1 while averaging over 17 minutes in two games with the Red WIngs.
Almquist, 22, was drafted in the seventh round (210 overall) in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. He has no goals and seven assists in 10 games with the Griffins this season. Almquist has been recalled after Brendan Smith was placed on IR.
