Devin Cooley News

After a tremendous start to his Flames' tenure, posting a stellar 2.27 GAA and .923 SV% in his first 22 appearances (7-11-4), Cooley has struggled in recent games and will hope to rebound on Wednesday against the St. Louis Blues. The 28-year-old goalie is coming off consecutive poor-quality starts for the first time this season, allowing nine goals on 38 combined shots (.763 SV%) in his last two games (0-2-0). The Flames enter Wednesday's contest as +110 home underdogs against a Blues team whose seven-game point streak (6-0-1) ended on Sunday in a 3-2 loss to the Winnipeg Jets.

One of the downfalls of playing for the Calgary Flames, the NHL's lowest-scoring team (2.50 GF / GP), is that Devin Cooley's modest 7-7-4 record does not do justice to how impressive he has been between the pipes this season. The 28-year-old Cooley is coming off another excellent outing, albeit another loss, 4-1 to the Ottawa Senators, but he saved 33 of 35 shots (.943 SV%) in the process. Amazingly, Cooley leads all goalies this season in save percentage (.923 SV%) and quality starts (.833). Still, the Flames enter Monday's contest as +175 road underdogs against a Washington Capitals team on a three-game losing streak (0-3-0).

Cooley was serviceable in relief of Dustin Wolf on Tuesday, saving 16 of 18 shots (.889 SV%), but the game was already out of hand when he entered the crease in an eventual 6-1 loss to the Dallas Stars. The 28-year-old Cooley has a terrific 2.20 GAA and .930 SV% in his last nine appearances (4-2-2). That said, the Flames enter the action on Thursday as +152 home underdogs against an Ottawa Senators team that has points in eight of their last nine games (6-1-2).

Cooley has lost three straight games (0-2-1), but continues to be a reliable presence in Calgary's crease, posting a 2.29 GAA and .924 SV% in those outings. Dating back to late December, the 28-year-old goalie has a dazzling 2.00 GAA and .933 SV% in his last six games (3-2-1). Still, the Flames enter the action on Wednesday as +116 road underdogs against an Edmonton Oilers team that played last night and lost 5-2 to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Despite losing his last two games (0-1-1), Cooley has played well, saving 65 of 69 combined shots (.942 SV%), continuing an impressive first season with the Flames. The 28-year-old American goalie has a tremendous 1.84 GAA and .943 SV% in his last five outings (3-1-1). That said, the Flames enter the action on Thursday as +161 road underdogs against a Minnesota Wild team that scored three or more goals in six consecutive games (4-1-1).

Despite Dustin Wolf occupying the starter's crease earlier during morning skate, Devin Cooley was the first goalie off the ice and will start vs. Washington on Friday. It is the 5th straight time that Cooley and Wolf have swapped starts as a trend seems to be appearing in the Flames' crease. The 28-year-old has earned his extended minutes, posting a ridiculous .922 SV% and 2.18 GAA to go alongside his 6-4-3 record. He will host the Washington Capitals on Friday, who are in the midst of a rare four game losing streak.

Minnesota's success earlier this season was largely aided by elite goaltending, which they have struggled to find in recent games. That said, Gustavsson helped his team record a 5-4 victory in their most recent game despite allowing four goals on 24 shots (.833 SV%). The 27-year-old Gustavsson has a 2.84 GAA and .880 SV% in his last four games (1-2-1). Minnesota enters Monday's contest as slight -102 road underdogs against a Toronto Maple Leafs team that is 7-2-1 in its last 10 games.

Cooley has been a bright spot in a mostly disappointing season for the Flames and has been solid in his last two games (2-0-0), saving 61 of 65 combined shots (.938 SV%). The 28-year-old California-born goalie has a 2.29 GAA and .918 SV% in 14 appearances this season (5-4-2). The Flames enter the action on Thursday as +109 road underdogs against a Chicago Blackhawks team that will welcome their leading scorer, Connor Bedard (illness), back into the lineup.

Cooley was originally slated to back-up Dustin Wolf on Monday, but was a late scratch due to an illness. Owen Say was recalled on an emergency basis from the Calgary Wranglers (AHL) and will serve as the backup on Monday.

Cooley has unexpectedly been excellent in a supporting role in his first season as a full-time NHL backup and has been rewarded with a two-year contract extension. The 28-year-old California-born goalie has a solid 2.40 GAA and .914 SV% in 13 appearances (4-4-2).

Cooley controlled the Flames' crease for the latter part of November, regularly putting together tremendous efforts, but had a poor 12-save performance (.750 SV%) in a 5-1 loss to the Nashville Predators on December 2nd, and has not played since. The 28-year-old Cooley returns to the crease on Wednesday against the Detroit Red Wings, hoping to rediscover the heroic play that earned him an elite 1.66 GAA and .934 SV% in seven November appearances (3-1-1). The Flames enter Wednesday's contest as slight -101 home underdogs against a Detroit Red Wings team with points in five straight games (3-0-2).

The Flames were expected to heavily rely on Dustin Wolf after last year's impressive rookie season, but he has faltered out of the gates, resulting in the team leaning on Devin Cooley in recent weeks. The 28-year-old Cooley was excellent in his most recent game, but received no goal support, saving 16 of 17 shots (.941 SV%) in a 1-0 overtime loss to the Carolina Hurricanes. Cooley has a sparkling 1.88 GAA and .930 SV% in 10 appearances this season (3-2-2). The Flames enter Tuesday's contest as slight +104 road underdogs against the league-worst Nashville Predators (8-13-4).
