Stafford left Monday’s preseason game with an upper-body injury and did not return.

Jets’ head coach Paul Maurice said that Stafford will undergo tests on Tuesday and said he doesn’t believe it’s overly serious. Maurice added that Stafford is day-to-day for now, but it doesn’t sound like he will miss significant time.

Stafford had one goal on five shots in the Jets shootout win over the Red Wings on Saturday. He has seven shots and has played a total of 5:06 on the power-play in his first two games with Winnipeg. He has now been bumped to the top-line, increasing his fantasy value yet again.

Stafford, who is a pending UFA at the end of the season, had nine goals, 15 assists (24 points) and a minus-18 rating in 50 games with the Sabres this season. He is a one-time 30-goal scorer and will likely fill Evander Kane’s role on the Jets’ third line.

Stafford went through practice this morning in First Niagara Center wearing a red non-contact jersey. Stafford has missed the past three games after suffering an upper-body injury against the Minnesota Wild on January 2. "I think it's more a day-to-day kind of thing," Stafford said. "I had a really long day today, a hard-working day, so we'll see how it responds later today and tomorrow morning. That's pretty much where we're at." Stafford has four goals and nine assists in 41 games this season.
