McDonald is one of six players heading back to the AHL on Wedneday after the Flyers' regular season wrapped up on Tuesday night. McDonald had an assist, four PIMS and a plus-3 in his NHL debut last night, and now he returns to the Phantoms, where he has just six assists in 62 games this year.

With Philadelphia sitting nine regular skaters vs. Montreal on Tuesday, Hunter McDonald will make his NHL debut. The 23-year-old defensemen was Philadelphia's 2022 sixth round pick (165th overall) and had six points and 88 PIMs in 62 games with Lehigh Valley (AHL) this season.

Philadelphia is locked into their playoff spot allowing players like Hunter McDonald to be recalled from Lehigh Valley (AHL) with expectations he will be making his NHL debut on Tuesday. The 23-year-old was Philadelphia's 2022 sixth round pick (165th overall) and he's spent the last two seasons with Lehigh Valley after a successful NCAA career at Northeastern University.

McDonald was reassigned in order to create room on the active roster for the return of Rasmus Ristolainen (upper-body). McDonald was recalled from Lehigh Valley back on January 18th but did not appear in an NHL game.


McDonald was the 165th overall pick of the Flyers in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. The 21-year-old played collegiate hockey for Northeastern University and recently made his professional debut in the AHL, playing nine games with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.
