Montreal has secured their young superstar for the remainder of the decade and beyond after they announced on Wednesday that Ivan Demidov has signed an eight-year, $9.125 million contract extension ($73M total). The 20-year-old flashy Russian is coming off an incredible rookie campaign which saw him lead all first-year players in points with 19 goals, 62 points and 34 PIMs in 82 games played.
Demidov (wrist) won't miss any time, will play in the Canadiens' season opener.
Demidov left Tuesday's game with a wrist injury, but the Canadiens said he was pulled for "precautionary reasons." Demidov was also held out of the lineup for Saturday's preseason finale, but there's no concern for his availability for the season opener on Wednesday.
Demidov (undisclosed) was a full participant at practice on Thursday.

Demidov should make an instant impact in the Canadiens' middle-6 and should be added immediately in keeper/dynasty leagues.
