He made 26 saves on 27 shots in the Ducks 2-1 win over the Oilers on Saturday. Since being recalled he has gone 3-2-0 with a 3.07 GAA and .899 SV%. He would face a Red Wings team who are 4-2-1 while averaging 3.00 goals per game in February.

He will take on a Lightning team who has gone 3-3-2 while averaging 3.13 goals per game in February.

Gibson, 21, has gone 6-3-2 with a 2.07 GAA and .935 SV% in 11 games with Norfolk. He has played well at both levels this season and could see the majority of the work while Frederik Andersen (head/neck) is sidelined.
Gibson has been sidelined with a groin injury since October 30th. Since then, the Ducks signed Ilya Bryzgalov to be Frederik Andersen’s backup, which pushes Gibson back to the minors. Whether or not he gets back to the NHL this season will be decided on how he performs in Norfolk and how Bryz does with Anaheim. Regardless, returning to the minors is probably best for the 21-year-olds development.

The Anaheim Ducks recently brought in veteran goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov so the expectation is that Gibson will get sent down and play the remainder of the season with Norfolk (AHL). Gibson played well, going 2-2-0 with 2.28 GAA and .927 SV% before getting hurt, but it looks like the Ducks believe it will be best for his development if he heads back to the AHL. Obviously, how long he stays down there will all depend on injuries and the play of Bryzgalov and Frederik Andersen, as well as Gibson’s with Norfolk.
Gibson has been out with a groin injury since November 3rd and his recovery is on schedule with his original diagnosis of about six weeks. The six week mark is actually December 16th so he should be back between the middle of December to Christmas.

It was an excellent game for the young netminder who has now won back-to-back starts while stopping 54 of 55 shots (.982 SV%). He should be safe to deploy tonight vs. a Blues team without Backes, Stastny or Oshie.
