Washington has signed Justin Holl to a one-year, $900,000 AAV contract.

Holl spent most of the 2025-26 season in the AHL, playing 41 games with the Grand Rapids Griffins (AHL), but played nine games with the St. Louis Blues after being acquired at the trade deadline. The 34-year-old will provide some extra depth for an already deep Washington Capitals blueline.

Tyler Tucker will re-enter the Blues' lineup on Wednesday against the Calgary Flames, returning Holl to the press box as a healthy scratch. The 34-year-old Holl had spent the entire 2025-26 season in the AHL until he was acquired by the Blues at the trade deadline. He has since played three games for St. Louis, averaging 14:53 time-on-ice and tallying one assist.

St. Louis has acquired Justin Holl, Dmitiri Buchelnikov, a 2026 1st round pick and a 2026 3rd round pick (SJS) from Detroit for Justin Faulk.

Holl, a veteran of 396 career NHL games, has spent the entire 2025-26 season in the AHL. The 34-year-old defenseman scored 14 points (2G / 12A) in 41 games with the Grand Rapids Griffins (AHL) this season and could be in line for a larger opportunity with the Blues.

Albert Johansson will draw back into the Red Wings' lineup on Thursday against the Philadelphia Flyers, sending Holl to the press box as a healthy scratch. The 32-year-old Holl is averaging a career-low 14:47 time-on-ice, recording three points (1G / 2A), 28 blocks, and 11 hits in 21 games this season.

Holl was a healthy scratch for Detroit's previous contest but will draw back into the lineup on Saturday vs. Boston. The 32-year-old stay-at-home defensemen has done little to contribute offensively this season, with one asssist, four SOG and a +1 plus/minus in 12 games played.

Jeff Petry will be a healthy scratch on Friday, allowing Holl to re-enter the lineup on Friday against his former team, the Toronto Maple Leafs. The 32-year-old Holl has not played since October 30th and has one point (0G / 1A0 while averaging 15:31 time-on-ice through seven games.
