Gazdic has two assists and 19 penalty minutes in 13 games with Albany. The Devils have recalled him likely to get him into the lineup vs. a heavy St. Louis team on Thursday.
Last year, Gazdic played between Edmonton and Bakersfield (AHL). He had one goal and 24 penalty minutes in 29 games with the Oilers and three points (1G / 2A) in 11 games with the Condors. He brings some toughness to the Devils fourth line, replacing the loss of Jordin Tootoo.
Gazdic has not played since January 18th and only appeared in 28 games this season. With the emergence of Zack Kassian, Gazdic’s services were no longer needed.
Gazdic was expected to be in the lineup tonight, but he will be a scratch after not taking the ice for warmups. With Gazdic out, the Oilers will go with seven defensemen.
Gazdic will not play on Wednesday and has been placed on IR, which means he will miss at least seven days. Gazdic’s movement to IR created a roster spot for the Oilers to activate Lauri Korpikoski (head) in advance of tonight’s game.
Gazdic missed the entire preseason while he was recovering from offseason shoulder surgery. He has been medically cleared to play, so he heads to the AHL where he will get back up to speed before returning to the Oilers. He is eligible to stay with OKC for a maximum of two weeks.

Gazdic was just recently acquired by Edmonton via waivers and it looks like he will make his Oilers and NHL debut tonight. He is a 6-foot-4, 240 lbs. tough guy that has spent the last five years in the Dallas Stars system.
