Sogaard was recalled yesterday for precautionary reasons as it was unclear if Dennis Hildeby (undisclosed) would be able to suit up. The 25-year-old Sogaard spent most of the 2025-26 season in the AHL, posting a 3.69 GAA and .874 SV% in 27 games (7-13-4) with the Belleville Senators.
If Dennis Hildeby (undisclosed) is unable to suit up on Tuesday against the New York Rangers, Sogaard will serve as Andrei Vasilevskiy's backup. The 25-year-old Sogaardgoalie spent most of the 2025-26 season in the AHL, posting a 3.69 GAA and .874 SV% in 27 games (7-13-4) with the Belleville Senators.
With the departure of Brandon Halverson, Tampa Bay added some depth to its goaltending position by signing Sogaard, who could serve as a backup to Andrei Vasilevskiy. The 25-year-old Danish goalie spent most of the 2025-26 season in the AHL, posting a 3.69 GAA and .874 SV% in 27 games (7-13-4) with the Belleville Senators.
Sogaard has spent most of the 2025-26 season in the AHL, where he is 4-8-4 with a 3.30 GAA and .889 SV% in 18 games. Internationally, he's earned very little playing time for Denmark but will get the start as heavy underdogs vs. the USA today.
Sogaard was excellent in Sunday's 7-1 win over the Vegas Golden Knights, saving 19 of 20 shots (.950 SV%). That said, he will return to Belleville (AHL), where he has spent most of the season, an indication that Linus Ullmark is likely ready to return to Ottawa's crease.
Sogaard played briefly in Colorado on Thursday and it went terribly. After replacing Leevi Merilainen, Sogaard allowed five goals on 16 shots and was replaced by Merilainen. Hunter Shepard was recalled from the AHL to take Sogaard's spot on the the roster.
With Linus Ullmark (personal) away from the team, the Senators have relied exclusively on Leevi Merilainen, with Hunter Shepard serving as his backup. Sogaard has more NHL experience than Shepard, so Shepard's reassignment to Belleville (AHL) with Sogaard returning could indicate that Ottawa plans to give Merilainen a rest in an upcoming game. The 25-year-old Sogaard has a 3.55 GAA and .879 SV% in 29 career NHL appearances (11-11-3).
Sogaard was recalled by Ottawa last week, sending Leevi Merilainen to Belleville (AHL) for some increased playing time. After two games in the AHL, Merilainen is returning to Ottawa, sending Sogaard back to Belleville.
With Anton Forsberg (lower body) returning to Ottawa's lineup, Sogaard has been loaned to Belleville (AHL). The 24-year-old Soogard has not seen much NHL action this season, posting an ugly 5.24 GAA and .800 SV% in two games (1-1-0).
Ottawa has recalled goalies Mads Sogaard and Leevi Meilainen from the Belleville Senators (AHL), which is likely a sign that Linus Ullmark's injury will keep him out of the lineup. Ullmark suffered an upper-body injury in the team's final game before the holiday break, exiting the contest after one period.
Returning Sogaard to the AHL is a sign that Linus Ullmark is healthy enough to travel on the Senators' upcoming road-trip. Sogaard stopped 27 of 28 shots in an OT loss in his only AHL game this season.
Sogaard's second call-up this week might indicate that Linus Ullmark (muscle strain) is not ready to return to the crease yet. The 23-year-old Sogaard was a last-minute emergency call-up on Monday and opened the contest against the Los Angeles Kings by backing up Anton Forsberg. Sogaard entered in relief of Forsberg midway through the game and allowed four goals on 17 shots (.765 SV%) but salvaged an 8-7 overtime victory.

Despite Senators head coach Travis Green referring to Linus Ullmark's absence from practice on Sunday as a "maintenance day," Sogard was recalled from the Belleville Senators (AHL) on an emergency basis. The 23-year-old Sogard was off to a terrific start with Belleville, posting a 0.92 GAA and .964 SV% after one game (1-0-0). That said, if Ullmark is unable to play, Ottawa will likely turn to Anton Forsberg between the pipes on Monday against the Los Angeles Kings.
