Martin Havlat News

Havlat has facial lacerations, no structural damage he is considered day-to-day.

Havlat was cut by an inadvertent elbow by the ref last night while he was being hit from behind by Jason Chimera. Havlat was bleeding everywhere and had some pretty substantial cuts. Damien Brunner skated in his spot this morning.

Havlat left Thursday's game with extensive facial damage following a hit from Jason Chimera.

Chimera caught Havlat pretty high from behind and rubbed him into the end boards. Havlat went down in a heap, bleeding from his nose and lip. Havlat will likely need some pretty serious repairs and miss some time. The first year Devil had one goal and two assists in his first four games.

The Devils have signed Martin Havlat to a one-year deal worth $1.5 million.

Havlat scored 12 goals with 10 assists and a plus-14 rating in 48 games with the Sharks last year. He heads to New Jersey where he and newly signed Mike Cammalleri will look to try and spark a typically low-scoring offence.

The Sharks have informed Havlat that he will not be back in San Jose next season.

Havlat is signed through next year and given that he has only suited up in 59.9% of games over the last three seasons and that he carries a cap-hit of $5 million dollars, I don't see any NHL teams lining up to acquire the 33-year-old. Should the Sharks buy out Havlat, his $5 million salary cap hit would not count against the NHL’s 2014-15 limit, per the recent collective bargaining agreement. Havlat is due $6 million in actual dollars for next season, according to CapGeek.com.

Havlat is out with a lower-body injury.

Havlat sat out Monday's game and will not play tonight. It was revealed after practice that Havlat is dealing with a lower-body injury and he does not have a timetable for a return. He has had a very difficult time staying healthy in recent years which has drastically limited any remaining fantasy value he had. Havlat has three goals, five assists and a plus-5 rating in 22 games.

Havlat (pelvis) will make his season debut tonight.

Havlat missed training camp, the pre-season and the first 12 games because of offseason pelvis surgery. Havlat used to be a consistent 20-plus goal scorer in the earlier part of his career - but in recent years it has been nearly impossible for him to stay healthy. He will play on a line with Joe Pavelski and Tommy Wingels.

Marty Havlat will not be ready by opening night, but Sharks general manager Doug Wilson expects the injured winger to return to the team at some point during the season after his offseason pelvic reconstruction surgery.

That timeline is currently unclear, but Wilson does expect Havlat's return to the Sharks to take place at some point.

Havlat is accompanying Sharks on four-game road trip, but does not intend to play. "Not there yet," he said.

Sounds like Havlat will continue to practice with the team and should be used as insurance. Limited to only 26 games, the winger has two goals and 15 points.

The other bit of good news Monday was that Marty Havlat (hamstring surgery) looked good as he skated on a line with Benn Ferriero and Brad Winchester. Havlat, as usual, declined to put any timetable on his return. But he clearly is getting closer, and intends to travel with the Sharks on their upcoming, four-game road trip.
