COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have assigned forward Matt Calvert to the Springfield Falcons, Columbus’ American Hockey League affiliate, Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Scott Howson announced October 17.

Calvert will be sent down in order to protect him from the losing environment in Columbus. Last season he proved himself NHL ready by scoring 11 goals in 42 games. Through five games this season he only registered one assist while playing on the third and fourth line.

Calvert's injury is not expected to keep him out too much longer.

Calvert should be back in the lineup before the end of preseason. Last season, he impressed by scoring 11 goals in 42 games with the Blue Jackets. The team will expect him to approach 20 goals in his sophomore season, playing a solid two-way game on the second line.
