Philadelphia Flyers

The Flyers have placed Michal Neuvirth (undisclosed) on injured reserve.

Neuvirth was sent back to Philadelphia before Saturday’s game in San Jose and was placed on IR this morning to create a roster spot. Brian Elliott was injured in Sunday’s practice, so Neuvirth’s move to IR could be to activate Alex Lyon, so he can serve as Calvin Pickard’s backup.

The Flyers have sent Michal Neuvirth to Lehigh Valley (AHL) on a conditioning stint.

Neuvirth has missed the first nine games of the season with a groin injury, but will head to the AHL to get some work in before returning to the Flyers. Neuvirth could be in-line for some early work after Brian Elliott has stumbled out of the gate. Neuvirth was 9-7-3 with a 2.60 GAA, .915 SV% and one shutout in an injury plagued 2017-18 season.

Neuvirth will start vs. the Blue Jackets on Friday.

Neuvirth stopped just 32 of 36 shots in the Flyers’ 5-4 shootout loss to the Devils on Tuesday. Neuvirth (2.61 GAA/.911 SV%) has been a serviceable back-up this season, and should see a starter’s workload for the next five to six weeks while Brian Elliot nurses a core muscle injury. He draws a mediocre matchup tonight against the Blue Jackets.

Neuvirth will start Tuesday vs. the Devils.

Neuvirth allowed one goal on 39 shots in the Flyers win in Vegas on Sunday. With Brian Elliott getting hurt in the shootout the night before, the Flyers turned to Neuvirth, who was great in the shootout and even better in Vegas. Neuvirth has turned in performances like this before but is terribly inconsistent. He will look to build off of it tonight vs. New Jersey—he stopped 28 of 29 shots in a 3-1 win vs. the Devils in late-January.
