The Maple Leafs have placed Mitch Marner (upper-body) on IR.

Marner will miss his third consecutive game with an upper-body injury, but his movement to IR was a way to create a roster spot to recall Frederik Gauthier and Marner remains a possibility for Thursday’s game against the Rangers. With Marner out, Josh Leivo will skate in the top-6 again tonight.

Marner left Wednesday’s game with an upper-body injury and did not return.

Marner was hurt when he went hard into the side boards, but took his next shift before eventually retiring to the dressing room for the night. Marner played just 9:56 TOI and is questionable for Saturday’s game vs. the Senators. Monitor his status as the week progresses.
