It looks like Petan has lost out to Pierre Engvall and Dmytro Timashov for a spot on the Maple Leafs roster and Toronto needed to clear space to activate Mitch Marner from IR.

Petan filled in for Jason Spezza on the tail-end of the Maple Leafs' weekend back-to-back. However, the 36-year-old centre will be back in the lineup in Philadelphia, sending Petan back to the luxury box.

Petan is a former second-round pick (No.43 overall in 2013) but struggled to get his footing in Winnipeg. Petan had back-to-back 100-plus point seasons in the WHL but has recorded just 23 points (5G / 18A) in 108 career NHL games. Petan has posted impressive numbers in the AHL but could have just as difficult of a time becoming a regular in a deep Toronto lineup.

Petan has been a healthy scratch for the last 10 games but is expected to play on Thursday. There is no indication on who Petan will replace but it sounds like it could be Adam Lowry who is nicked up.

Petan will make his season debut in Finland.
Petan has sat as a healthy scratch for the first 13 games of the season, but will replace Jack Roslovic in the Jets’ lineup vs. the Panthers. The 23-year-old has impressed in the AHL, picking up 52 points (15G / 37A) in 52 games a season ago, but hasn’t been able to gain any traction with the Jets. Look for him to centre the fourth line with Brendan Lemieux and Andrew Copp on his wings today.

The Jets re-signed Nic Petan to a one-year, $874,125 extension.

The Jets have recalled Nic Petan from Manitoba (AHL).
Petan failed to record a point in six games with the Jets earlier this season but has been great with Manitoba this season. The 22-year-old is second on the Moose with 41 points (12G / 29A) in 39 games this season. Expect him to play on Tuesday with the Jets getting banged up at forward.

Petan has not picked up a point in six games but has only averaged 8:59 TOI/GM, so he wasn’t given a great opportunity to succeed. Petan heads to Manitoba, where he has 13 goals and 24 assists (37 points) in 56 career games.
