The Canucks have acquired Noah Juulsen and Juho Lammikko from the Panthers for Olli Juolevi.

Juulsen is a former first-round pick who had his career thrown off track due to headache issues but gets a fresh start in Vancouver. It's a homecoming for the Surrey, BC native, who had no points in four NHL games and one assists in five AHL games a season ago.

The Panthers have signed Noah Juulsen to a one-year, two-way contract extension.

Juulsen was claimed off of waivers in January but didn't play a lot of hockey afterwards. He went pointless in four games with the Panthers and had just one assist in five games with Syracuse (AHL). Headaches derailed his career in Montreal but he'll be looking to get back on track with the Panthers in 2021-22.

The Panthers have claimed Noah Juulsen off of waivers from the Canadiens.

Juulsen was a first-round pick (No.26 overall) in 2015 but only played in 44 NHL games since. Juulsen has dealt with headache issues in recent years, last year playing just 13 games with Laval (AHL). Still, he is just 23-years-old and has a bright future as long as he can stay healthy and on the ice.

The Canadiens have re-signed Noah Juulsen to a one-year, two-way deal ($700K / $125K).

Juulsen missed most of the 2019-20 season with concussion-like symptoms that stemmed from a facial fracture that he suffered after being hit in the face with the pick in September. He had three assists in 13 AHL games and will likely start 2021 with Laval (AHL) after the promotion of Alexander Romanov and the addition of Joel Edmundson.

The Wild have acquired Nick Bjugstad from the Penguins for a conditional 2021 draft pick.

Bjugstad missed 46 games after undergoing core muscle surgery in 2020 and then was hurt again three games after returning to the lineup and then the season was paused. Bjugstad has missed a total of 92 games (39.5%) over the last three seasons but will look for a fresh start in his hometown. Bjusgstad was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota and went to the University of Minnesota, so this should be a welcomed move for the 28-year-old centre. Both Mikko Koivu and Alex Galchenyuk are UFAs at season's end, so there could be a very clear path to a bottom-6 role for Bjugstad.

Nick Bjugstad
Bjugstad underwent surgery to repair a core muscle injury and will miss at least eight weeks.

Bjugstad will miss his third straight game on Thursday and will miss at least two months after undergoing surgery today. Injuries have devastated the Penguins in the first two months of the season but they’ve continued to win games. Luckily, they’ll get Patric Hornqvist back to replace Bjugstad on Thursday.

Bjugstad (lower-body) will be a game-time decision on Saturday.

Bjugstad has missed the last nine games with a lower-body injury but was back at practice on Friday and will be a game-time decision in Dallas. Bjugstad centred the second line with Bryan Rust and Patric Hornqvist and skated on the second power-play unit in practice.

Nick Bjugstad
Bjugstad (lower-body) will travel on the Penguins three-game road-trip.

Bjugstad has been sidelined since October 5th but will travel on the Penguins upcoming road-trip, which starts Tuesday in Florida. There's no indication whether or not Bjugstad will play on the trip but this is a step in the right direction for the 27-year-old centre.

Nick Bjugstad
Bjugstad (lower-body) is expected to be out “longer-term.”

Both Bjugstad and Evgeni Malkin are expected to miss extended periods of time with lower-body injuries. The Penguins were deep down the middle heading into the season and now will have to rely on players like Jared McCann and Teddy Blueger to centre their middle-6. Bjugstad has missed at least 15 games in three of the last four years.

Juulsen consulting with a specialist for headaches.

The Canadiens announced that Juulsen is not dealing with a concussion, but did have a facial fracture after being hit in the face by the puck last November. Juulsen’s status for the start of the regular season is unclear, but these headaches could open up a spot for Cale Fleury to start the year with Montreal.
