Grubauer allowed three goals on 31 shots in the Capitals loss to the Stars back on November 19th. Braden Holtby started the last eight games, but Grubauer will start tonight in Florida. It will be the battle of the backups with Al Montoya going for the Panthers. Grubauer has won both of his road starts this season while allowing five goals on 50 shots (.900 SV%).
Emelin was a healthy scratch for the las two games, but will replace Greg Pateryn in the lineup tonight vs. the Blue Jackets. Emelin has two assists in 18 games this season.
Emelin was on the ice for the Canadiens’ practice on Tuesday, but he skated as an extra, which suggests that he will not play on Wednesday. Monitor Emelin’s status during Wednesday’s morning skate, but he is listed as doubtful as of now.
Grubauer allowed three goals on 29 shots in the Capitals loss to the Flames last Friday. It was his first loss of the season and he now sits 2-1-0 with a 2.59 GAA and .899 SV% in three games. Grubauer is a solid-spot start option with the right matchup, but that is not what he has tonight with the Stars in town.
Emelin has missed the last two games and will miss at least the next three because he will not travel with the team on their upcoming three-game road trip. Greg Pateryn will remain in the lineup.
Emelin will miss Saturday’s game vs. Colorado with a lower-body injury. Emelin will be replaced by Greg Pateryn, who will be making his season debut. Emelin is considered day-to-day.
Grubauer allowed one goal on 27 shots in the Capitals win in Florida on October 31st. Grubauer has won each of his two starts, while stopping 45 of 50 shots (.900 SV%) this season. With Braden Holtby starting last night, the Capitals will turn to Grubauer tonight vs. the Flames. Calgary has gone 3-3-0 while averaging 3.17 goals per game over that span.
Emelin was held off of the ice on Friday and is listed as questionable for Saturday’s game vs. Colorado. If Emelin is unable to play look for Jarred Tinordi or Greg Pateryn to play.
Grubauer allowed four goals on 23 shots in the Capitals win in Edmonton last Friday. It wasn’t a pretty performance, but the offence was able to do enough to earn him his first ‘W’of the season. On Saturday he takes on a solid Panthers team, but they will be without two of their top guns (Barkov & Jagr).
Braden Holtby has started the first six games of the season, but they will turn to Grubauer on Friday in Edmonton. The 23-year-old beat out Justin Peters for the Capitals’ backup job and comes into Friday’s contest having gone 7-6-5 with a 2.44 GAA and .924 SV% in his first 16 NHL starts and four relief appearances.
Grubauer has been recalled and will start Game 2 if Braden Holtby (illness) can’t play tonight. Grubauer has gone 27-17-5 with a 2.30 GAA and .921 SV% in 49 games with Hershey (AHL). Holtby is expected to get the nod, but Grubauer has been recalled as a precaution.
Grubauer served as Braden Holtby’s backup on Monday, but his return to the AHL is either to save money since they’re off until Thursday or suggests that Justin Peters will be good-to-go in Minnesota.
Emelin has been out since February 18th, but he will return tonight vs. the Lightning. Emelin has two goals and 11 assists (13 points) in 55 games this season.
With Justin Peters injured, the Capitals needed a second goaltender for tonight’s game. Grubauer will likely serve as Braden Holtby’s backup tonight vs. the Bruins.
There was some optimism that Emelin would be able to play on either Tuesday or Thursday, but the doctor said his shoulder is not 100% yet so he won’t be able to return until Saturday or next week.
Emelin has missed the last nine games with a shoulder injury, but the Canadiens expected to have him back on Tuesday or Thursday. Monitor his status in the Canadiens morning skate tomorrow.
Emelin will fly with the team on their upcoming west coast road trip. His rehab is reportedly going well and he could be back in two weeks if all continues to progress the way it is now.
Emelin will return to the ice this week and the Canadiens will conduct more tests on his injured right shoulder. He is expected to be back in March at some point.
Emelin suffered the injury on Wednesday against the Senators and will miss at least the next seven days and then will be re-evaluated after that. At this time, the extent and nature of the injury are unknown.
