The Capitals have reassigned Philipp Grubauer to Hershey (AHL).

Grubauer was recalled to start last night and he came through the for the Caps. He allowed two goals on 25 shots in Washington’s 3-2 win over Anaheim. It was likely a test to see if he could get it done vs. a good NHL team, he can. This could force the Capitals to make a decision on the struggling Justin Peters.

The Capitals recalled Grubauer this morning and sent Andre Burakovsky down to make room, they wouldn’t do that if they didn’t plan on giving him the nod. There is no official word, but given the back-to-back situation it looks like Grubauer will make his season debut. He has gone 16-9-4 with a 2.03 GAA and .924 SV% in Hershey (AHL).

Grubauer, 23, has gone 16-9-4 with a 2.03 GAA and .924 SV% in Hershey this season. He has not played in a game for the Capitals this year, but you have to think he has been recalled to start tonight vs. the Ducks. The Capitals will announce the corresponding roster move later today.

Emelin (lower-body) will be back in the Habs' lineup on Thursday.

Emelin missed the last two games with a lower-body injury, but will replace Nathan Beaulieu in the lineup tonight vs. the Bruins. Emelin will be paired with PK Subban and on the point of second power-play unit. He has two assists and a plus-2 rating in the first two games of the season.

Despite starting 14 of their last 20 games, Grubauer was pulled in each of his last two starts and has been reassigned. This is a tough break for owners who invested on him, but if you did, evaluate the waiver wire options because Caps goalies are terribly risky right now.

Grubauer was pulled after allowing three goals on 14 shots in a loss to the Blue Jackets on Friday. Capitals head coach Adam Oates did not blame Grubauer for the loss and will turn to him again tonight vs. the Rangers. Grubauer has just one win in his last seven starts, but still holds a 2.22 GAA and .931 SV% through 15 games.

Despite only one win in his last five starts, Grubauer has posted a solid 2.12 GAA and .925 SV% which has resulted in a 1-1-3 record. He draws a tough matchup tonight vs. a Sharks team who ranks 5th in the NHL with 3.06 goals per game.

Grubauer stopped 33 of 36 shots in a win over the Lightning on Thursday. He will make his seventh start in the Capitals last nine games and the starter's job appears to be his to lose. He is 6-2-3 with a 2.27 GAA and .931 SV%, so you can see why Adam Oates has put so much trust in him. The first time he played against Buffalo, he allowed one goal on 17 shots in a 2-1 shootout loss.

Grubauer allowed four goals on 33 shots in a loss to the Hurricanes last Thursday. After getting Saturday off, the Capitals will go back to Grubauer tonight in Tampa Bay. In his first game vs. the Lightning he allowed two goals on 34 shots in relief of Braden Holtby, the Caps won 6-5 in a shootout.
