Ryan Murray News

Murray (knee) has ramped-up on-ice activity this week, will travel to Philadelphia.

Murray will not play vs. the Flyers, but will travel with the team in order to take part in practice. Murray is now now 3 plus-weeks removed from surgery that was expected cost him 4-6 weeks. Murray is not quite at day-to-day status, but is definitely improving and could return for the final few games of the regular season.

Murray will miss four to six weeks after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his knee.

Murray injured his knee in Monday's win over the Maple Leafs. He was expected to return again this season, but after undergoing surgery he is done for the year. This is a tough break for the Blue Jackets and Murray, who was having a great rookie season. Murray had three goals and 17 assists (20 points) in 61 games this season.

Murray left Monday's game late in the first period with what appeared to be a left ankle or knee injury. He did not return to the game.

Blue Jackets coach Todd Richards said the injury was not "serious," but could keep Murray out of the lineup. "We'll know more on Tuesday," Blue Jackets GM Jarmo Kekalainen said. The loss of Murray would be a big loss for the Blue Jackets, especially on the heels of losing veteran Fedor Tyutin for an indefinite amount of time with an ankle injury. Murray has posted 20 points (3G / 17A) in 61 games this season.

Defenseman Ryan Murray, who missed most of last season with his junior club following a serious shoulder injury, also made the club. He'll likely pair with James Wisniewski on the third pairing.

The second overall pick in last year's draft probably could have played for the Blue Jackets last season if he had not hurt his shoulder. He is a complete defenseman who will have an impact this year. He had 17 points in 23 games on a WHL blueline last season, he should be able to translate his game into the NHL right away.
