The Blackhawks have acquired Sam Lafferty from the Sabres for a 2026 6th Round Pick.

Buffalo shed $2 million worth of salary just minutes before Tuesday's free agency window by trading Sam Lafferty to Chicago for a 2026 6th-round pick. The 30-year-old center appeared in 60 games in 2024-25, picking up four goals, seven points and a -15 plus/minus. He is expected to take a bottom-six role with Chicago in the upcoming season.

Lafferty (undisclosed) will be a game-time decision to return on Thursday vs. Pittsburgh.

Lafferty did not play in Buffalo's previous game but could return to the lineup on Thursday against the Pittsburgh Penguins. The 30-year-old forward is averaging 9:43 time-on-ice and has five points (2G / 3A) in 50 games this season.

Lafferty will join his fourth team in the last three years as he signed a two-year deal worth $4.0 million ($2.0M AAV). with the Buffalo Sabres on Monday. The 29-year-old centre spent one season in Vancouver in 2023-24, finishing with career highs in goals (13), points (24) PIMs (32) and games played (79).

Chicago has acquired Sam Lafferty’s rights from Vancouver alongside Ilya Mikheyev (15% retained) and a 2027 2nd round pick for a 2027 4th round pick.

Lafferty just finished a two-year deal, which he originally signed with the Blackhawks before being traded to Toronto and then to Vancouver. He is a pending UFA, so the Blackhawks have a small window to try and get him under contract before he hits the open market. The 29-year-old centre had career-highs in goals (13) and points (24) during the 2023-24 season.
