Semyon Varlamov was placed on IR prior to last night's game and Reto Berra was injured in the game, so Aittokallio has been recalled to serve as the Avs' second netminder alongside Calvin Pickard. The 22-year-old netminder mdae one start with the Avalanche last season and went 15-15-3 with a 2.65 GAA and .909 SV% with Lake Erie.
Aittokallio is 8-9-1 with a 2.89 GAA and .900 SV% with Lake Erie (AHL) this season. He was recalled on Friday with J.S Giguere battling back issues. It will be his first NHL start since April 13, 2013, he allowed two goals on 25 shots (.920 SV%), but did not finish the contest due to a lower-body injury.
This means Varly is ready to return and should back up Giggy tonight.
Aittokallio played well before exiting the game but he won't be much use to you in your fantasy leagues this season.
Aittokallio was 14-11-1 with a 2.89 GAA and .903 SV% as a member of the Lake Erie Monsters of the AHL. It is a tough matchup for him to make his NHL debut. Probably not someone you want to use in the middle of the fantasy playoffs.
