Crosby (mid-body) will return to the Penguins lineup on Tuesday.

Crosby has missed the last 28 games after undergoing core muscle surgery to repair a nagging sports hernia in mid-November. Crosby was back on the top line (with McCann and Simon) and top power-play unit and comes in with 17 points (5G / 12A) in 17 games this season.

Sidney Crosby
Crosby took part in the Penguins morning skate but won't play on Tuesday.

Crosby is on the Penguins road trip and skated before the morning skate and also took part in the team session ahead of Tuesday's game in Vegas. It's a great sign that he was able to skate with the team again today but he will remain out of the lineup for at least one more game.

Sidney Crosby
Crosby will travel on the Penguins three-game road trip.

Crosby has been out since November 9th after undergoing surgery for a nagging sports hernia but it looks like he'll be back in the lineup at some point this week. The Penguins are in Vegas on Tuesday, so monitor Crosby's status if they elect to hold a morning skate.

Sidney Crosby
Crosby underwent core muscle surgery on Thursday; will miss at least six weeks.

Crosby has been dealing with a nagging sports hernia and opted for surgery on Thursday. This is obviously a massive blow for the Penguins but Evgeni Malkin has often elevated his game when Crosby is out. Crosby was known as injury-prone early in his career but has become much more durable in recent years, so this is uncharted territory for this Pittsburgh team. In fact, Crosby has missed just 19 games over the last six seasons, appearing in 96.1 percent of regular-season games over that span. Expect Jared McCann to continue to skate as a top-6 centre while Crosby is out.

Sidney Crosby
Crosby (lower-body) will not travel on the Penguins two-game road trip.

Crosby suffered a lower-body injury vs. the Blackhawks on Saturday and will not play Tuesday in New York and will likely miss Friday's game in New Jersey as well. Jared McCann moved up between Jake Guentzel and Alex Galchenyuk in Monday's practice, so look for him to skate there against the Rangers.

Sidney Crosby
Crosby (lower-body) missed Monday's practice; questionable to play Tuesday.

Crosby was forced to leave Saturday's game vs. the Blackhawks with a lower-body injury and it seems as if he could miss Tuesday's game in New York. The Penguins have yet to release any information on Crosby's status but look for Jared McCann to skate in Crosby's spot if he can't play.

Sidney Crosby
Crosby (foot) will play in the Penguins’ season opener on Thursday.

Crosby has practiced for the last two days and will play in the Penguins season opener. Crosby is set to centre the top line with Jake Guentzel and Patric Hornqvist on his wings. The 32-year-old centre is coming off of his first 100-point season since 2014.

Sidney Crosby
Crosby (foot) returned to practice on Tuesday.

Crosby practiced for the first time since being hit in the foot with a shot during Pittsburgh’s preseason game last Saturday. “I felt good today,” Crosby told reporters, but his status for Thursday’s season opener remains unknown. Expect another update on Thursday.

Sidney Crosby
Crosby (concussion) will be a game-time decision on Tuesday.

Crosby was a full-participant in the Penguins’ practices on Monday and Tuesday and will be a game-time decision on Tuesday. Crosby centred the top line and top power-play, so it looks like he will return tonight vs. the Panthers. Monitor Crosby’s status when warmups start at 6:30pm ET.

Sidney Crosby
Crosby (concussion) was a full-participant in Monday’s practice; not ruled out of Tuesday’s game.

Crosby was cleared for contact on Monday and finished the practice with no limitations. It was a great sign that Crosby is nearing his season debut and head coach Mike Sullivan did not rule Crosby out of Tuesday’s game vs. Florida—he remains day-to-day.
