Crosby (foot) will play in the Penguins’ season opener on Thursday.

Crosby has practiced for the last two days and will play in the Penguins season opener. Crosby is set to centre the top line with Jake Guentzel and Patric Hornqvist on his wings. The 32-year-old centre is coming off of his first 100-point season since 2014.

Crosby (foot) returned to practice on Tuesday.

Crosby practiced for the first time since being hit in the foot with a shot during Pittsburgh’s preseason game last Saturday. “I felt good today,” Crosby told reporters, but his status for Thursday’s season opener remains unknown. Expect another update on Thursday.

The Golden Knights have re-signed Deryk Engelland to a one-year contract.

Engelland had 12 points (2G / 10A) in 74 games in his second season with the Golden Knights. While his point totals aren’t impressive, Engelland led Vegas in blocked shots (152), was fourth in hits (165) and ranked first among defensemen in SH TOI/GP (3:12). Engelland brings a reliable defensive game to the Vegas top-4 and was a priority for them this offseason.

Deryk Engelland
Engelland (undisclosed) will be back in the Golden Knights lineup on Friday.

Engelland has missed the last three games, but will replace Brad Hunt in the lineup on Friday. Engelland is expected to skate alongside Shea Theodore and re-enters the lineup with no points, a minus-4 rating and seven shots in six games this season.

Deryk Engelland
The Golden Knights have placed Deryk England (undisclosed) on IR.

Engelland has missed the last two games with an undisclosed injury, but has been moved to IR to open up a roster spot to activate Alex Tuch (lower-body). Despite moving to IR, Engelland is reportedly close to a return to the lineup and is eligible to be activated whenever he is 100 percent.

Crosby (concussion) will be a game-time decision on Tuesday.

Crosby was a full-participant in the Penguins’ practices on Monday and Tuesday and will be a game-time decision on Tuesday. Crosby centred the top line and top power-play, so it looks like he will return tonight vs. the Panthers. Monitor Crosby’s status when warmups start at 6:30pm ET.

Sidney Crosby
Crosby (concussion) was a full-participant in Monday’s practice; not ruled out of Tuesday’s game.

Crosby was cleared for contact on Monday and finished the practice with no limitations. It was a great sign that Crosby is nearing his season debut and head coach Mike Sullivan did not rule Crosby out of Tuesday’s game vs. Florida—he remains day-to-day.

Sidney Crosby
Crosby (concussion) has been cleared for contact.

Crosby missed the first six games of the season, but he practiced in a regular jersey on Monday and appears to be nearing a return. Being cleared for contact was the next step in Crosby’s recovery, so signs are pointing towards him potentially returning this week.
