Stephen Weiss News

Weiss, who hasn't skated since Thursday due to pulled groin, said he hopes to return sometime next week.

Weiss will miss at least the next three games (Tonight, Friday and Saturday). He could be back on Tuesday vs. the Predators. Weiss has struggled early with the Red Wings, he has two goals and one assist in 17 games.

Weiss (undisclosed) will not play on Saturday.

Weiss is not skating this morning and Red Wings GM Ken Holland says that he is hurt and will not play tomorrow, but provided no details. This is a tough break for Weiss who appeared more comfortable with the Red WIngs in the last few games. With Weiss out, Darren Helm was skating in the top-six with Tomas Tatar and Daniel Alfredsson.

Stephen Weiss has agreed to terms on a 5-year, $24.5 million dollar deal with the Detroit Red Wings.

Weiss struggled last season because of a wrist injury but before that he had recorded three straight 20 goal seasons, including 28 in 2009-10. He will provide the Red Wings with more forward depth and allows them to continue to play the puck possession game that they love.

Stephen Weiss and Mikael Samuelsson practiced before the Panthers workout in Coral Springs today and, as Dale Tallon alluded to, both could be back either this weekend or for the game in New York after the New Years.

Getting Weiss back on the ice is a great sign for the banged up Panthers. His 32 points are tied with linemate Tomas Fleischmann for second on the team.

No Stephen Weiss for #FlaPanthers this morning; very doubtful for #Leafs

Weiss has not practiced since getting injured on the 22nd. Coach Kevin Dineen did hint that Weiss could miss the rest of the calendar year so it is safe to assume he misses tonight's game. His 32 points through 35 games remain second on the team.

Word is #FlaPanthers C Stephen Weiss worked out on ice for 20 minutes in full gear prior to practice; doubtful for #Leafs on Tuesday night

Not good news for the team's expected captain. Weiss missed the team's last game against the Florida Panthers and is probably their most valuable player.

@pb1300 not so sure Goldie. He said that Weiss could use some days off. He would get four days to heal before Toronto game.

Weiss definitely won't play tonight and could be absent until later next week. The top line center scored 11 goals and 32 points through 35 games. Mike Santorelli likely fills in on the top line.
