The Avalanche are likely going to be without Nathan MacKinnon (COVID), Valeri Nichushkin (upper-body) and Gabriel Landeskog (suspension) on Saturday, so Matteau will make his Avalanche debut. The 27-year-old has 11 points (6G / 5A) in 91 career NHL games with the Devils, Canadiens, Golden Knights and Blue Jackets.

Pitlick was selected by Seattle in the Expansion Draft on Wednesday but was quickly flipped to the Flames for a fourth-round pick. Pitlick doesn't bring a lot of offence to the table but has a trustworthy two-way game that should pair well with Mikael Backlund and help out the Flames penalty kill in 2021-22.

Pitlick was forced to leave Monday's game vs. the Avalanche and will miss at least a couple of weeks with a lower-body injury. With Pitlick out on Friday, look for Drake Caggiula to draw back into the lineup vs. the Sharks.

Thursday will be Matteau's second game of the season, replacing Kevin Stenlund in the lineup. The 27-year-old has two goals and one assist in 10 career games with Columbus.

Matteau played 12:00 TOI in his season debut on Monday but will be replaced by Mikhail Grigorenko in the lineup on Thursday.

Matteau appeared in nine games with the Blue Jackets a season ago, replacing Mikhail Grigorenko in Carolina. The 26-year-old winger had two goals and one assist last year and has 10 points (5G / 5A) in 73 career NHL games.

After one season with the Flyers, Pitlick hit the open market, signing a two-year deal with the Coyotes. Pitlick provides very little offence but has good size (6-foot, 200 lbs) and fills an important role in the Coyotes' bottom-6. Pitlick led all Flyers' forwards with 132 hits while chipping in 20 points (8G / 12A) in 63 games.

Pitlick missed the last two games but will replace Chris Stewart in the lineup vs. Buffalo. Pitlick, who has just six points (2G / 4A) in 28 games this season, will skate on the fourth line with Mikhail Vorobyev and Andy Andreoff.

Pitlick was questionable for the opener due to a wrist injury that he suffered in the preseason. With Pitlick being cleared, Joel Farabee has been sent back to the AHL.

Pitlick recently joined Flyers practice in a non-contact capacity but his status for the season opener remains cloudy. If Pitlick is out, look for Carsen Twarnyski to make the team and start the year on the Flyers fourth-line.

Pitlick has one-year left on his three-year contract that carries a $1.0M cap-hit. During his second season with the Stars, Pitlick scored eight goals with four assists (12 points) in 47 games. He will replace Hartman in the Flyers’ bottom-6.

Pitlick was originally expected to miss two weeks but underwent surgery this week and will miss at least two more months. This essentially ends Pitlick’s season but would put him on target to play in the playoffs if the Stars qualify.

Pitlick has missed the last two games and is expected to miss at least two more weeks. With Pitlick out until mid-February, expect Denis Gurianov to remain with the big club.

Pitlick was hurt vs. the Kings on January 17th and missed their game vs. the Jets on the 19th. Pitlick’s move to IR opened up a roster spot for the Stars to recall Roope Hintz from Texas (AHL).
