Stefan Matteau News

Matteau will make his Golden Knights debut on Tuesday.

Matteau is a former first-round pick (No.29 overall in 2012) but has picked up just six points (3G / 3A) in 56 career NHL games with the Devils and Canadiens. Prior to being called up by Vegas, Matteau had four goals and one assist in 19 games with Chicago (AHL). He will replace Will Carrier (upper-body) on the fourth line tonight.

The Stars have signed Tyler Pitlick to a three-year deal worth $3.0M ($1.0M AAV).

Pitlick has split his time between the AHL and NHL in his first three professional seasons. Last year he had 21 points (7G / 14A) in 37 games with Bakersfield and 11 points (8G / 3A) in 31 games with Edmonton. He is a capable scorer with good size (6-foot, 202 lbs) who brings some offence and some upside to the Stars bottom-6.

Pitlick (lower-body) returned to Edmonton to be re-evaluated.

Pitlick was hurt in Monday’s game in St. Louis and was seen postgame in a walking cast up to his thigh and on crutches. Right now, it doesn’t look good for him,” Oilers’ head coach Todd McLellan said postgame. Pitlick will be out until the Christmas break at the very least, so expect Jesse Puljujarvi or Taylor Beck to get back into the lineup on Wednesday.

The Canadiens have acquired Stefan Matteau from the Devils for Devante Smith-Pelly.

Matteau, 22, was a first round pick in 2012, but has yet to pan out at the NHL level. The 6-foot-2, 220 lbs. forward has just one goal in 20 games this season and just five points (3G / 2A) in 44 career NHL games.

Pitlick (undisclosed) has been activated from injured reserve.

Pitlick has been sidelined by an undisclosed injury since December 31st, but he is expected to be back in the lineup tonight vs. the Kings. Pitlick will skate on the third line with Anton Lander and Matt Fraser. Pitlick has one goal in 14 games with the Oilers this season.

The Devils have recalled Stefan Matteau from Albany (AHL).

Matteau, 20, was the Devils first round pick (29th overall) in 2012. He has one goal and eight assists (9 points) in 26 games with Albany this season. Matteau has one goal and two assists in 17 career NHL games.

Pitlick will play with Taylor Hall and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins on Wednesday.

Pitlick was a plus-1 and had one shot in 9:57 TOI in his season debut on Monday. In 14 games in Oklahoma City (AHL), Pitlickhad three goals and six assists. He could have some value in daily fantasy leagues, but the way things are going for the Oilers right now, I wouldn’t have too much faith.
