Brendan Leipsic News

The Capitals have placed Brendan Leipsic on unconditional waivers for purpose of terminating his contract.

Leipsic had an Instagram conversation made public earlier in the week that revealed some inappropriate comments made by Leipsic about women and his teammates. The NHL called Leipsic's comments "misogynistic and reprehensible" and on Friday the Capitals took the first step in terminating the 25-year-old's contract. During his 61 games in Washington, Leipsic scored three goals and eight assists (11 points).

The Senators have recalled Vitaly Abramov from Belleville (AHL).

Abramov made his NHL debut with the Senators last year but opened the year with Belleville. With Filip Chlapik and Drake Batherson being re-assigned on Sunday, Abramov comes up and will likely be in the lineup on Thursday. Abramov had 29 points (16G / 13A) in 70 AHL games last season.

The Senators have acquired Vitali Abramov, Jonathan Davidsson, a 2019 first-round pick and a conditional 2020 first-round pick from the Blue Jackets for Matt Duchene and Julius Bergman.

Abramov is a highly touted prospect, who was at the top of the Blue Jackets farm system after being picked in the third-round (No.65 overall) in 2016. The under-sized winger (5-foot-9, 171 lbs) has excellent elusiveness and dangling ability, that he he has used to score 12 goals with 10 assists (22 points) in 52 AHL games this season.

The Kings have claimed Brendan Leipsic off of waivers from the Canucks.

Leipsic is the second forward that the Kings have claimed off of waivers in less than a week. Leipsic has bounced around the NHL a little bit but has produced some decent numbers at every stop. In total, he has 30 points (8G / 22A) in 81 career NHL games and should help the Kings top-9 that is lacking talent.

The Canucks have acquired Brendan Leipsic from the Golden Knights for Philip Holm.

Leipsic had registered just 13 points (2G/11A) in 44 games with the Golden Knights this season. He had recently fallen out of favour with head coach Gerard Gallant, as he was routinely scratched and averaged just over 11 minutes of ice time per game. The move to Vancouver should give Leipsic plenty of opportunities to show what he can do at the NHL level.
