Yakovlev was sent down on Sunday to call-up a backup goalie MacKenzie Blackwood out but has been recalled to serve as the Devils’ 6/7th defenseman.
Yakovlev has been in the lineup for the last two games but will be scratched for Mirco Mueller on Friday. Yakovlev has two assists in six games this season.
Yakovlev was a healthy scratch on Friday vs. the Islanders, but will draw back into the lineup on Sunday. It will be Yakovlev’s fifth career NHL games and so far he has one assist while averaging 16:45 TOI/gm through four games.
Yakovlev, 27, signed with the Devils this summer after six seasons in the KHL. Yakovlev had nine points (5G / 4A) in 35 KHL games last season and has picked up seven assists in seven AHL games this year. He could make his NHL debut on Thursday if Ben Lovejoy is still sidelined.
